The 2N3906 is a general-purpose PNP bipolar junction transistor in a TO-92 package, sold here in a pack of 5. It is used for low-power switching and small-signal amplification, and it is the PNP complement of the popular 2N3904 NPN transistor, so the two are often used together in push-pull and H-bridge circuits.

Tip: In a PNP switch the emitter goes to the positive supply and the load to the collector; pull the base low through a 1 kΩ to 10 kΩ resistor to turn it on. It turns off only when the base is at the emitter voltage, so if the supply is higher than your logic level, drive the base with an NPN transistor.
