Description

The Ethernet Shield W5100 connects an Arduino Uno or Mega to a wired network and the internet through a standard RJ45 cable. It uses the WIZnet W5100 Ethernet controller, which handles the TCP/IP stack in hardware, so your sketch only has to send and receive data. A microSD card slot on the shield lets you store files such as web pages or logged data.

Ethernet Shield W5100 Specifications

  • Controller: WIZnet W5100 with hardwired TCP/IP stack
  • Network speed: 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, RJ45 connector
  • Protocols: TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, ARP
  • Connections: up to 4 sockets at the same time
  • Buffer: 16 KB internal memory
  • Interface: SPI; digital pin 10 selects the W5100 and pin 4 selects the SD card
  • Storage: microSD card slot (card not included)
  • Compatible boards: Arduino Uno, Mega 2560 and other boards with the standard shield layout

Ethernet Shield W5100 Applications

  • Small web servers and control pages hosted on an Arduino
  • Sending sensor data to a server, MQTT broker or cloud dashboard
  • Remote switching of relays over a local network

What's in the Box

  • 1 × W5100 Ethernet shield

Tip: Use the built-in Arduino Ethernet library. On the Uno, pins 10 to 13 are used for SPI, so avoid them for other parts; if you are not using the SD card, set pin 4 HIGH so it does not interfere.
