Function Generator XR2206

The Function Generator XR2206 is a monolithic function generator IC that produces sine, triangle, square, ramp and pulse waveforms from a single chip. The frequency is set by one external resistor and capacitor, and the chip also has amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency-shift keying (FSK) inputs, which is why it sits at the heart of many DIY function generator kits and lab signal sources.

Tip: The square-wave sync output on pin 11 is open-collector, so add a pull-up resistor of a few kΩ to the positive supply. For a stable frequency, use a film timing capacitor and a timing resistor between about 4 kΩ and 200 kΩ.
