GP2Y0A710K0F 100-500cm IR distance sensor + Cable

The GP2Y0A710K0F is a long range infrared distance sensor that measures objects from about 1 m up to 5.5 m and outputs an analog voltage that changes with distance. It works by triangulation, so the reading is less affected by the colour and reflectivity of the target. It suits robots, presence detection and level sensing over longer distances, and it comes with its connection cable.

Tip: The output is not linear, so convert it with a calibration table or curve rather than a straight formula, and do not rely on readings closer than 100 cm. A capacitor of 10 µF or more across the supply close to the sensor smooths the current pulses of the IR LED.
