Description

The OP-Amp BMOS CA3140 is a BiMOS operational amplifier that combines a MOSFET input stage with a bipolar output stage. It offers a very high input impedance, picoamp input current, 4.5 MHz gain-bandwidth and a 9 V/µs slew rate, and it uses the same 8-pin layout as the 741, so it can upgrade many 741 circuits directly.

OP-Amp BMOS CA3140 Specifications

  • Type: BiMOS op-amp, MOSFET inputs and bipolar output, internally compensated
  • Gain-bandwidth: 4.5 MHz
  • Slew rate: 9 V/µs
  • Supply voltage: 4 V to 36 V single, or ±2 V to ±18 V dual
  • Input impedance: about 1.5 TΩ (typical)
  • Input current: about 10 pA (typical)
  • Input range: can go 0.5 V below the negative supply rail
  • Pins: 8, 741-style pinout (inputs on pins 2 and 3, output on pin 6, V+ on pin 7, V− on pin 4)

OP-Amp BMOS CA3140 Applications

  • High-impedance buffers for sensors, probes and photodiodes
  • Sample-and-hold circuits and peak detectors
  • Integrators, long-period timers and function generators
  • Active filters and instrumentation amplifiers
  • Upgrading 741-based circuits that need a lower input current

What's in the Box

  • 1 × CA3140 op-amp IC

Tip: With an input current of only picoamps, dirt and moisture on the board can cause leakage, so keep the input area clean and the input tracks short. Decouple the supply pins with 100 nF capacitors close to the chip.
