Quad MUX (2 input) 74158

The Quad MUX (2 input) 74158 is a 74-series logic IC with four 2-line to 1-line data selectors (multiplexers) in one 16-pin package. A single select input chooses whether the four A inputs or the four B inputs reach the outputs, so it can switch a whole 4-bit word between two sources at once. Unlike the 74157, the 74158 gives inverted outputs, which keeps the propagation delay short.

Tip: Tie the strobe pin to ground to enable the chip, and remember that the outputs are inverted: add an inverter such as the 7404 if you need the true data, or use a 74157 instead. Place a 100 nF capacitor between VCC and GND close to the IC.
