Triac BT134-600

The Triac BT134-600 is a bidirectional thyristor (triac) rated for 4 A RMS on-state current and a 600 V repetitive peak off-state voltage. It switches and controls AC loads, so it is widely used in light dimmers, fan speed controllers, heater controls and home-made solid-state relays. Its small SOT82 through-hole package suits compact boards and low-to-medium power loads.

Tip: Drive the gate from a microcontroller only through an opto-triac driver such as the MOC3021 (for dimming) or MOC3041 (zero-cross switching), never directly. Mains voltage is dangerous: build on an insulated board, add a fuse, and fit a heatsink when the load current is high.
