Description
The Zener Diode (2.7V) 0.5W is a through-hole Zener diode with a breakdown voltage of 2.7 V and a power rating of 0.5 W, sold in a pack of 5. Used in reverse bias with a series resistor, it holds the voltage across it at about 2.7 V, which is handy for clamping signals that feed 3.3 V logic, simple low-voltage references and level limiting.
Zener Diode (2.7V) 0.5W Specifications
- Zener voltage: 2.7 V (nominal)
- Power rating: 0.5 W (500 mW)
- Maximum Zener current: about 185 mA in theory (0.5 W ÷ 2.7 V); stay well below this in practice
- Type: Zener diode, through-hole
- Polarity: cathode marked with a band
- Pack size: 5 pieces
Zener Diode (2.7V) 0.5W Applications
- Clamping signals into 3.3 V microcontroller inputs, together with a series resistor
- Low-voltage references for comparators
- Protecting sensitive inputs from voltage spikes
- Simple shunt regulators for very low-current loads
- Diode characteristic experiments in electronics labs
What's in the Box
- 5 × 2.7 V 0.5 W Zener diodes
Tip: Connect the cathode (band end) to the positive side and always add a series resistor: R = (Vin − 2.7 V) ÷ I, so from 5 V at 5 mA use about 470 Ω. Low-voltage Zeners have a soft knee, so their voltage changes more with current than on higher-voltage types.
