The Ceramic Capacitor 230pF 220V 221K sold here is a 221K metal oxide varistor (MOV), supplied in a pack of 5. It looks like a ceramic disc capacitor, but it works as a voltage-dependent resistor: below about 220 V it passes almost no current, and above that its resistance drops sharply so it clamps surges and spikes. The 221K is meant for 110–120 V AC lines and DC circuits up to 180 V. Note that the 220V in its name is the varistor voltage, not a mains rating, so it is not suitable for 230 V mains.

Tip: Do not use the 221K directly on Lebanese 230 V mains: its 140 V AC limit is far too low, and it would overheat and fail. For 230 V lines choose a 431K or 471K. Always fit varistors after a fuse and work only with the power disconnected.
