The 8x8 Red 64 LED Dot Matrix is a square red LED display with 64 LEDs arranged in 8 rows and 8 columns on a 6 × 6 cm face. By lighting the right dots in quick succession it can show letters, numbers, arrows, icons and animations, and several matrices placed side by side can scroll text. It is a popular display for learning multiplexing with Arduino, PIC and ESP32 boards.

Tip: Check the pinout before wiring: use a multimeter in diode-test mode to find which pins are rows and which are columns, and whether the rows are anodes or cathodes. Drive it with shift registers or a matrix driver chip such as the MAX7219 (for common-cathode layouts), add current-limiting resistors, and scan one row at a time.
