Description

The MPU6050 Module GY-521 is a 6 DOF (six degrees of freedom) motion sensor board that combines a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope in the MPU-6050 chip. It talks to an Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi over I2C and is widely used for tilt sensing, balancing robots, drones, gesture control and motion tracking.

MPU6050 Module GY-521 Specifications

  • Sensor chip: MPU-6050 (3-axis gyroscope + 3-axis accelerometer)
  • Gyroscope ranges: ±250, ±500, ±1000 or ±2000 °/s
  • Accelerometer ranges: ±2, ±4, ±8 or ±16 g
  • Resolution: 16-bit ADC on each axis
  • Interface: I2C, address 0x68 (AD0 low) or 0x69 (AD0 high)
  • Supply: 3 V to 5 V, with an on-board 3.3 V regulator
  • Extras: built-in temperature sensor and Digital Motion Processor (DMP)
  • Pins: VCC, GND, SCL, SDA, XDA, XCL, AD0, INT

MPU6050 Module GY-521 Applications

  • Self-balancing robots and robot orientation
  • Drone and RC flight controllers
  • Tilt, vibration and motion detection
  • Gesture and head-tracking controllers
  • Physics and STEM experiments with Arduino

What's in the Box

  • 1 × MPU6050 GY-521 module

Tip: On an Arduino Uno connect SDA to A4 and SCL to A5 (on an ESP32 the defaults are GPIO 21 and GPIO 22). Mount the board firmly and calibrate the offsets at rest, because loose mounting and vibration add noise to the readings.
