Reed Switch 50mm

The Reed Switch 50mm is a magnetically operated switch with its contacts sealed inside a glass tube. When a magnet is brought close, the thin metal reeds inside change state and switch the circuit; when the magnet moves away, they return to their rest position. Because nothing touches the contacts from outside, it is a simple and reliable way to detect position without physical contact.

Tip: The glass body is fragile: bend the leads with pliers a few millimetres away from the glass and do not overheat it when soldering. When reading it with a microcontroller, use a pull-up resistor or the board's internal pull-up.
