Rotary Encoder Module

The Rotary Encoder Module is an incremental encoder on a small breakout board that turns knob rotation into digital pulses. Unlike a potentiometer it turns endlessly in either direction, and its two outputs tell your Arduino or ESP32 both how far and which way it was turned. The shaft also works as a push button, which makes it ideal for menus and settings.

Tip: Read CLK and DT with interrupts or an encoder library to get reliable counts when the knob is turned quickly. Enable INPUT_PULLUP on the SW pin, since the push switch usually has no pull-up resistor on the board.
