Soil Moisture Sensor Sparkfun SEN-13322

The Soil Moisture Sensor from SparkFun (SEN-13322) measures how wet the soil is using two large exposed pads that act as a variable resistor. The more water in the soil, the better it conducts and the higher the analog voltage on the SIG pin. The board has a gold (ENIG) finish to slow the corrosion that shortens the life of cheaper probes, making it a solid choice for plant monitors and irrigation projects.

Tip: Power VCC from a digital pin and switch it on only while you take a reading; this greatly reduces corrosion of the probes. Calibrate by noting the reading in dry soil and in wet soil, as the values depend on your soil and supply voltage.
