Transformer 12-0-12V 3VA

The Transformer 12-0-12V 3VA is a small step-down mains transformer with a centre-tapped secondary that gives 12 V AC on each side of the centre tap, or 24 V AC end to end. Its 3 VA rating is meant for low-power circuits, such as small linear power supplies, dual-rail supplies for op-amps and preamps, and control or sensing circuits that draw little current.

Tip: The primary side runs at mains voltage, so insulate every connection, fit a fuse on the primary and never touch it while it is plugged in. Small transformers give a higher voltage than rated at light load, so allow for this when choosing capacitor and regulator ratings; after rectification and filtering expect roughly 16 V DC or more on each half.
