The Varistor 250pF 100V 101K is a disc-type metal oxide varistor (MOV) with a varistor voltage of 100 V, sold in a pack of 5. A varistor is a voltage-dependent resistor: it barely conducts at normal working voltage, then conducts heavily when a spike or surge pushes the voltage above its rating, clamping the spike and protecting the circuit behind it.

Tip: Connect the varistor in parallel with the supply you want to protect, after a fuse, so that if it ever fails short the fuse opens. Do not use the 101K on mains voltage; it is meant for low-voltage circuits only.
