Description

The Wind Speed Sensor is an anemometer, also called a wind speed transmitter, that measures wind speed and converts it into a standard analog signal. It provides a 4–20 mA current or 0–5 V voltage output, depending on the version, so it can feed a PLC, data logger, weather station controller or microcontroller ADC.

Wind Speed Sensor Specifications

  • Type: anemometer (wind speed transmitter)
  • Measures: wind speed
  • Output signal: 4–20 mA current or 0–5 V voltage, depending on version
  • Output behaviour: analog, proportional to wind speed
  • Connects to: PLCs, data loggers, weather station controllers, Arduino and ESP32 analog inputs

Wind Speed Sensor Applications

  • Weather stations and agricultural monitoring
  • Wind monitoring for solar arrays, greenhouses and rooftops
  • High-wind alerts for cranes, towers and construction sites
  • Small wind turbine research and STEM projects

What's in the Box

  • 1 × wind speed sensor

Tip: To read a 4–20 mA version with an Arduino, pass the current through a 250 Ω resistor to get 1–5 V. Check the label for the supply voltage and for the wind speed that gives full-scale output, then use these to convert the reading to m/s.
