The 1x40pin Female header strip is a single row of 40 female sockets with a standard 2.54 mm pitch in a black plastic housing. Solder it to a PCB or perfboard to make plug-in connections for modules, sensors, displays and Arduino shields, so parts can be removed and reused instead of being soldered in permanently.

Tip: To get a shorter strip, cut through the socket just after the last one you need, as one position is lost at each cut, then file the cut edge smooth. Plug a matching male header into it while soldering to keep the strip straight.
