8 Input MUX 74151

The 8 Input MUX 74151 is an 8-to-1 line data selector/multiplexer from the 74-series logic family. Three select inputs (A, B, C) choose which of the eight data inputs (D0–D7) is passed to the output, and the chip provides both the true output (Y) and its complement (W). It is a classic part for digital electronics labs, logic design courses and expanding the inputs of a microcontroller.

Tip: Connect the strobe pin (G, pin 7) to ground, otherwise the multiplexer stays disabled and Y stays low. Tie unused data inputs to ground or 5 V rather than leaving them floating, and fit a 100 nF capacitor between VCC and GND close to the chip.
