Description
The Darlington Transistor BDX33C is an NPN Darlington power transistor rated for 100 V and 10 A, in a TO-220 package. Two transistors in one package give a DC current gain of at least 750, so a small base current from a microcontroller or driver stage can switch heavy loads such as DC motors, solenoids, lamps and relays.
Darlington Transistor BDX33C Specifications
- Type: NPN Darlington
- Collector-emitter voltage (VCEO): 100 V
- Collector current: 10 A continuous
- DC current gain (hFE): 750 minimum
- Power dissipation: 70 W with the case at 25 °C (heatsink needed)
- Built-in parts: collector-emitter protection diode and base-emitter resistors
- Package and pinout: TO-220, pins base, collector, emitter (B-C-E); the tab is the collector
- PNP complement: BDX34C
Darlington Transistor BDX33C Applications
- Driving DC motors and pumps from Arduino or ESP32 outputs
- Switching solenoids, relays and lamps
- Pass transistors in linear power supplies
- Audio amplifier output stages with the BDX34C
What's in the Box
- 1 × BDX33C NPN Darlington transistor
Tip: Use a base resistor of about 1 kΩ from the microcontroller pin, connect the load between the supply and the collector, and connect the emitter to ground. A Darlington drops around 2 V when fully on, so it heats up at high currents: fit a heatsink, and add a flyback diode across motors and coils.
