Description
The TIP127 Darlington Transistor is a PNP Darlington power transistor in a TO-220 package, rated for 100 V and 5 A continuous collector current (8 A peak). Two transistors in one package give a DC current gain of at least 1000, so it can switch heavy loads on the high side or work as the PNP partner of the TIP122 in push-pull stages and H-bridge motor drivers.
TIP127 Darlington Transistor Specifications
- Type: PNP Darlington
- Collector-emitter voltage (VCEO): −100 V
- Collector current: −5 A continuous, −8 A peak
- Base current: −120 mA maximum
- DC current gain (hFE): 1000 minimum at 0.5 A and 3 A
- Saturation voltage (VCE(sat)): 2 V at 3 A, up to 4 V at 5 A
- Power dissipation: 65 W with the case at 25 °C (heatsink needed), 2 W in free air
- Built-in parts: collector-emitter protection diode and base-emitter resistors
- Package and pinout: TO-220, pins base, collector, emitter (B-C-E); the tab is the collector
- NPN complement: TIP122
TIP127 Darlington Transistor Applications
- High-side switching of motors, lamps and solenoids
- H-bridge motor drivers together with the TIP122
- Push-pull audio and power output stages
- Linear regulators and power control
What's in the Box
- 1 × TIP127 PNP Darlington transistor
Tip: As a high-side switch, connect the emitter to the positive supply and the load between the collector and ground; pulling the base low through a resistor turns it on. When the supply is above 5 V, drive the base with an NPN transistor rather than straight from an Arduino pin, and add a flyback diode across inductive loads.
