Description
The Potentiometer 2W 5K ohm is a rotary variable resistor with a total resistance of 5 kΩ and a power rating of 2 W. Turning the shaft moves the wiper along the track to give an adjustable resistance, or an adjustable voltage from the centre pin. The 5 kΩ value works well as a control knob for Arduino and ESP32 analog inputs and for adjusting voltage regulators, op-amps and timers.
Potentiometer 2W 5K ohm Specifications
- Resistance: 5 kΩ across the full track
- Power rating: 2 W
- Type: rotary potentiometer, 3 terminals
- Wiring: two track ends plus the centre wiper
- Current through the full track: 1 mA at 5 V, 2.4 mA at 12 V
- Pack size: 1 piece
Potentiometer 2W 5K ohm Applications
- Analog control knobs for Arduino and ESP32 projects
- Setting the output voltage of adjustable regulators such as the LM317
- Op-amp gain, offset and comparator threshold adjustment
- Speed and brightness control knobs read by a microcontroller
- Repairs and electronics lab work
What's in the Box
- 1 × 5 kΩ 2 W potentiometer
Tip: Connect the outer pins to 5 V (or 3.3 V) and GND and the centre pin to an analog input to read the knob position. The 2 W rating applies to the whole track; if you use only two pins as a variable resistor, a smaller part of the track carries the current, so keep it well below the full-track limit of about 20 mA.
