Description
The Rover 5 Tank Chassis with 4 encoders is a tracked robot platform from Dagu with four independent DC gear motors, each fitted with a quadrature encoder. The encoders let your controller measure how far and how fast each motor turns, so you can drive in straight lines, make accurate turns and build closed-loop speed control. It is a solid base for robotics clubs, university projects and autonomous rovers.
Rover 5 Tank Chassis Specifications
- Drive: 4 DC motors with gearboxes and tank-style rubber tracks
- Encoders: 4 quadrature encoders, one per motor
- Encoder resolution: about 1000 state changes per 3 wheel rotations
- Motor rated voltage: 7.2 V
- Motor stall current: about 2.5 A per motor
- Gearbox ratio: 86.8:1
- Speed: about 1 km/h
- Battery holder: built in, takes 6 × AA cells (batteries not included)
- Ground clearance: adjustable by rotating the gearboxes
Rover 5 Tank Chassis Applications
- Autonomous and remote-controlled robots with Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi
- Odometry, PID speed control and navigation experiments
- Robotics competitions, clubs and STEM classes
- Carrying sensors such as ultrasonic, LiDAR or cameras over uneven ground
What's in the Box
- 1 × Rover 5 tank chassis with 4 geared DC motors, 4 encoders and tracks
Tip: The motors draw far more current than a microcontroller pin can supply, so drive them through a motor driver rated for the stall current, such as the Dagu Rover 5 motor driver board, and connect the encoder outputs to interrupt-capable pins.
