Description
The IR Infrared Obstacle Avoidance tracking sensor module detects nearby objects and surfaces using reflected infrared light. An IR LED sends out light and an IR receiver picks up the reflection; when enough light comes back, the module switches its output, which an Arduino or ESP32 reads as a simple digital signal. It is a low-cost sensor for robot cars that need to avoid obstacles or follow a line.
IR Infrared Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Specifications
- Sensing method: reflected infrared, with an IR emitter and IR receiver pair
- Output: digital signal for a microcontroller input
- Detects: objects in front of the sensor, or light and dark surfaces when mounted facing down
- Works with: Arduino, ESP32, ESP8266 and Raspberry Pi
IR Infrared Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Applications
- Obstacle avoidance for robot cars
- Line-following robots tracking a black line on a white floor
- Edge detection to stop robots driving off a table
- Object counters and presence detection
- STEM and robotics classes
What's in the Box
- 1 × IR obstacle avoidance tracking sensor module
Tip: Dark surfaces reflect little infrared, so they are detected at a shorter distance than white ones, and direct sunlight can disturb the sensor; test it in the lighting where it will be used. Check the pin labels printed on the board before wiring power.
