Tip: When checking it with a multimeter, do not hold both leads with your fingers, because your body resistance in parallel makes the reading lower than 1.2 MΩ. At this value the 0.25 W limit is only reached at about 550 V, so the resistor's maximum working voltage, not its power rating, is the real limit; check it before using the resistor across high voltages.
