Tip: Resistors have no polarity, so they can be fitted either way round. With 240 Ω, the 0.25 W limit is reached at about 7.7 V across the resistor (about 32 mA). In an LM317 circuit, place it between OUT and ADJ; the output is then about 1.25 V × (1 + R2 ÷ 240 Ω), where R2 runs from ADJ to ground.
