Tip: Resistors have no polarity, so they can be fitted either way round. With 47 kΩ, the 0.25 W limit is only reached at about 108 V across the resistor (P = V² / R), and at 5 V it passes only about 0.1 mA, so it is very safe for 3.3 V, 5 V and 12 V circuits.
