Tip: Resistors have no polarity, so they can be fitted either way round. With 620 Ω, the 0.25 W limit is reached at about 12.4 V across the resistor (about 20 mA). On a 9 V battery, a red LED through 620 Ω draws about 11 mA, a good brightness for an indicator with low battery drain.
