Tip: A 1.2 Ω resistor reaches 0.5 W at only about 0.8 V across it, or about 0.65 A through it. Check P = I² × R before use; as a current shunt, 0.5 A through it gives a 0.6 V drop and 0.3 W of heat, which is within its rating.
