Voltage Regulator 7905 TO-220

The Voltage Regulator 7905 TO-220 is a fixed negative linear voltage regulator that gives a steady −5 V output from a more negative input voltage. It is the negative partner of the 7805 and is used wherever a circuit needs a −5 V rail, for example in dual ±5 V supplies for op-amps, audio circuits and analog sensor interfaces. Built-in current limiting and thermal shutdown protect it from overloads.

Tip: The 7905 pinout differs from the 7805, and its metal tab is connected to the input, not to ground, so insulate it from a grounded heatsink. Fit a 2.2 µF capacitor on the input and a 1 µF capacitor on the output, close to the pins, for stable operation.
