Description
The Light Dependent Resistor LDR 12mm is a large photoresistor (photocell) with a 12 mm head whose resistance falls as the light on it gets brighter. It is a simple, low-cost way to sense light levels: put it in a voltage divider and read it with an Arduino or ESP32 analog input to build automatic night lights, light meters and sun trackers.
Light Dependent Resistor LDR 12mm Specifications
- Type: light dependent resistor (photoresistor)
- Size: 12 mm
- Behaviour: high resistance in the dark, low resistance in bright light
- Leads: 2, no polarity
- Mounting: through-hole
Light Dependent Resistor LDR 12mm Applications
- Automatic night lights and street-light models
- Light level sensing with Arduino and ESP32
- Solar trackers and sun-following projects
- Light-activated alarms and switches
- Science and electronics classes
What's in the Box
- 1 × 12 mm light dependent resistor
Tip: Connect the LDR in series with a fixed resistor, such as 10 kΩ, between 5 V and GND, and read the middle point on an analog pin. For the best sensitivity, measure the LDR in your own dark and bright conditions first and pick a fixed resistor near the middle of that range.
