Description
The IC Socket 28 Pins is a through-hole DIP socket that you solder to a PCB or perfboard in place of the chip itself. The IC then plugs into the socket, so it can be removed, replaced or reprogrammed without desoldering, and it is never exposed to soldering heat. It is a common choice for 28-pin microcontrollers, EEPROMs and other DIP ICs in projects and repairs.
IC Socket 28 Pins Specifications
- Positions: 28 contacts in two rows of 14
- Pin pitch: 2.54 mm (0.1 in), standard DIP spacing
- Mounting: through-hole, soldered to a PCB or perfboard
- Fits: 28-pin DIP integrated circuits
IC Socket 28 Pins Applications
- Mounting 28-pin microcontrollers so they can be removed for programming
- EEPROM and memory chips that may need replacing or updating
- Protecting expensive ICs from soldering heat
- Repair work and prototype boards where chips are swapped often
- Electronics education and university projects
What's in the Box
- 1 × 28-pin IC socket
Tip: 28-pin DIP chips come in two widths: narrow, with 7.62 mm (0.3 in) between the rows, such as the ATmega328P, and wide, with 15.24 mm (0.6 in) between the rows, used by many memory chips. Check that the socket's row spacing matches your IC, and line up the notch on the socket with the notch on the chip so pin 1 is in the right place.
