2N2219A

The 2N2219A is a general-purpose NPN silicon transistor in a TO-39 metal can, designed for high-speed switching and amplification at currents up to 800 mA. The metal case can dissipate more heat than a plastic TO-92 package, so it is a good choice for driving relays, lamps, solenoids and small motors, and for audio and RF amplifier stages.

Tip: On the TO-39 can, the lead next to the small tab is the emitter, followed by the base and then the collector. The metal case is connected to the collector, so keep it from touching other parts, and use a base resistor and a flyback diode when switching coils.
