Description
The 4.5 inch bending sensor is a thin, flexible flex sensor about 114 mm long whose electrical resistance increases as it is bent. It bends and flexes along with the object it is attached to, so you can read it as a variable resistor with an analog input and measure how far a finger, joint or hinge is moving. It is a popular sensor for data gloves, robotic hands, wearables and interactive projects with Arduino and ESP32.
4.5 inch bending sensor Specifications
- Type: resistive flex (bend) sensor
- Size: 4.5 in (about 114 mm) version
- Output: resistance increases as the sensor bends
- Connection: 2 pins, no polarity
- Reading: analog, through a voltage divider
4.5 inch bending sensor Applications
- Data gloves that track finger movement
- Controlling robotic hands and grippers
- Wearables and motion-sensing costumes
- Detecting the bending of doors, lids and hinges
- Game controllers and interactive art
What's in the Box
- 1 × 4.5 inch flex sensor
Tip: Wire the sensor in series with a fixed resistor between 5 V (or 3.3 V) and GND and read the midpoint with an analog pin; pick a resistor close to the sensor's flat resistance, which you can measure with a multimeter. Avoid sharp creases and do not bend the sensor right at the pin end, as this can damage it.
