Description
The 4 Bit Comparotor 4585 is a CMOS 4-bit magnitude comparator IC. It compares two 4-bit binary numbers, A and B, and shows on three separate outputs whether A is greater than, less than or equal to B. Cascading inputs let you chain several chips to compare 8-bit, 12-bit, 16-bit or longer numbers, which makes it useful in counters, control logic and digital electronics courses.
4 Bit Comparotor 4585 Specifications
- Function: 4-bit magnitude comparator
- Data inputs: A0 to A3 and B0 to B3
- Outputs: A greater than B, A less than B, A equal to B
- Cascading inputs: for comparing words longer than 4 bits with several ICs
- Logic family: CMOS 4000 series
- Supply voltage: typically 3 V to 15 V (check your manufacturer's datasheet)
- Pins: 16
4 Bit Comparotor 4585 Applications
- Comparing two binary numbers in digital systems
- Detecting when a counter reaches a set value
- Address and code matching circuits
- Digital logic labs and university courses
What's in the Box
- 1 × 4585 4-bit magnitude comparator IC
Tip: When using a single chip, set the cascading inputs to the levels given in your manufacturer's datasheet, otherwise the outputs may be wrong. As with all CMOS ICs, tie unused inputs to VDD or VSS and handle the chip with antistatic care.
