Description

The 49E Hall effect sensor is a linear (analog) magnetic sensor of the widely used SS49E type. Its output sits at about half the supply voltage with no magnet nearby and moves up or down depending on the strength and polarity of the magnetic field. That makes it useful for measuring magnet position, detecting rotation and building simple current sensors with an Arduino analog input.

49E Hall Specifications

  • Type: linear Hall effect sensor, analog output
  • Supply voltage: 2.7–6.5 V (SS49E rating)
  • Zero-field output: about half of the supply (2.5 V at 5 V)
  • Sensitivity: about 1.4 mV per gauss (typical)
  • Supply current: about 6 mA at 5 V
  • Package: 3-pin TO-92 style
  • Operating temperature: −40 to +100 °C

49E Hall Applications

  • Measuring magnet distance and position
  • Joysticks, throttles and contactless knobs
  • Current sensing with a ferrite core
  • Motor speed and rotation detection

What's in the Box

  • 1 × 49E linear Hall effect sensor

Tip: With the marked face towards you and the pins down, the pins are usually VCC, GND and output from left to right; check your part before powering it. Connect the output straight to an analog pin: readings above the midpoint mean one magnetic pole, readings below it mean the other.
