Description
The 8 Bit DAC DAC0808 is an 8-bit multiplying digital-to-analog converter IC. It turns an 8-bit value from a microcontroller, counter or logic circuit into an output current that is proportional to that value and to a reference current, settling in about 150 ns. With an external op-amp, the current becomes an analog voltage for waveform generation, control circuits and lab experiments.
8 Bit DAC DAC0808 Specifications
- Resolution: 8 bits (256 levels)
- Output: current output, about 2 mA full scale with a 10 V reference and a 5 kΩ reference resistor
- Relative accuracy: ±0.19% maximum error
- Settling time: 150 ns typical
- Digital inputs: TTL and CMOS compatible, A1 (MSB) to A8 (LSB) on pins 5 to 12
- Supply voltage: ±4.5 V to ±18 V (often +5 V and −15 V)
- Power consumption: about 33 mW at ±5 V
- Pins: 16
8 Bit DAC DAC0808 Applications
- Generating sine, triangle and sawtooth waveforms from a microcontroller
- Analog output for 8051, PIC and Arduino projects
- Programmable voltage and current sources
- Digitally controlled gain using the multiplying reference input
- Microprocessor and digital electronics lab experiments
What's in the Box
- 1 × DAC0808 8-bit DAC IC
Tip: The DAC0808 output (pin 4) is a current, so connect it to the inverting input of an op-amp with a feedback resistor to get a voltage. A1 is the most significant bit, the reverse of the usual D0–D7 naming, and the compensation capacitor from pin 16 to VEE shown in the datasheet should not be left out.
