8 Bit Shift Register 74595

The 8 Bit Shift Register 74595 is a 74-series logic IC that turns serial data into eight parallel outputs, with a storage latch so all outputs change at the same moment. With only three microcontroller pins you can control eight outputs, and several chips can be chained to drive 16, 24 or more LEDs from one Arduino or ESP32.

Tip: For normal use tie OE (pin 13) to GND and SRCLR (pin 10) to VCC, and place a 100 nF capacitor between VCC and GND. Use a resistor on every LED output and keep the total chip current within the datasheet limit, about 70 mA for the 74HC595.
