Description
The ACS712 5A Range Current Sensor module measures AC or DC current up to ±5 A using the Hall effect. The current flows through the screw terminals and the chip outputs an analog voltage proportional to it, which you can read with the analog input of an Arduino or another microcontroller. The measured circuit is electrically isolated from the sensor output, making it suitable for monitoring motors, batteries, solar panels and power supplies.
ACS712 5A Range Current Sensor Specifications
- Sensor IC: Allegro ACS712, 5 A version (ACS712ELCTR-05B)
- Measuring range: −5 A to +5 A, AC or DC
- Sensitivity: 185 mV per amp
- Output at 0 A: about 2.5 V (half the supply)
- Supply voltage: 5 V
- Current path resistance: about 1.2 mΩ
- Connections: 2-pin screw terminal for the measured current, 3-pin header (VCC, GND, OUT)
ACS712 5A Range Current Sensor Applications
- Measuring motor and load current in robotics
- Battery charge and discharge monitoring
- Solar panel and power supply current logging
- Overcurrent detection and protection circuits
- Energy monitoring projects with Arduino and ESP32
What's in the Box
- 1 × ACS712 5 A current sensor module
Tip: Current = (Vout − 2.5 V) ÷ 0.185 V/A, so calibrate the zero point in code with no load connected. The output swings from about 1.6 V to 3.4 V over the full range, so on a 3.3 V board such as the ESP32 use a voltage divider on the output. Take care when measuring mains current, as the screw terminals are at mains voltage.
