Description

The AMS1117 3.3V Power Supply Module is a small linear regulator board that turns a higher DC voltage, such as 5 V from USB, into a steady 3.3 V. It is built around the AMS1117-3.3 low-dropout regulator and is a simple way to power ESP8266 and ESP32 modules, 3.3 V sensors, radio modules such as the nRF24L01 and other low-voltage parts from a 5 V supply or an Arduino.

AMS1117 3.3V Power Supply Module Specifications

  • Regulator IC: AMS1117-3.3, fixed-output low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator
  • Output voltage: 3.3 V
  • Output current: up to 1 A (IC rating; less in practice because of heat)
  • Dropout: about 1.1 V at full load, so the input should be at least about 4.5 V
  • Input voltage: about 4.5–7 V recommended; 15 V is the IC maximum
  • Type: linear regulator, with no switching noise

AMS1117 3.3V Power Supply Module Applications

  • Powering ESP8266 and ESP-01 modules from 5 V
  • 3.3 V sensors and nRF24L01 radio modules
  • A 3.3 V rail on a breadboard next to a 5 V Arduino
  • Battery-powered projects that need a clean 3.3 V supply

What's in the Box

  • 1 × AMS1117 3.3 V power supply module

Tip: A linear regulator turns the extra voltage into heat: from 5 V at 500 mA it has to get rid of about 0.85 W. Keep the input voltage low and the current moderate, and use a buck converter first if you start from 12 V.
