AMS1117 5V Power Supply Module

The AMS1117 5V Power Supply Module is a small linear regulator board that turns a higher DC input into a steady 5 V output. It is built around the AMS1117-5.0 low-dropout regulator, which can supply up to 1 A, making it a simple way to power Arduino boards, sensors and 5 V modules from a 7.4 V Li-ion pack, a 9 V battery or a 12 V adapter.

Tip: A linear regulator turns the extra voltage into heat: with 12 V in and 500 mA out it must get rid of about 3.5 W, which is too much for the small chip. For higher currents or large voltage drops, use a buck converter such as the LM2596 instead.
