Description
The BCD-7seg latch dec CD4511 is a CMOS BCD-to-7-segment latch, decoder and driver IC. It takes a 4-bit BCD code (0–9) on its A, B, C and D inputs and drives the seven segments of a common-cathode LED display directly, with a built-in latch that can hold the digit on the display. It is a classic part for counters, clocks and digital readouts built with 4000-series logic or a microcontroller.
BCD-7seg latch dec CD4511 Specifications
- Function: BCD-to-7-segment latch, decoder and driver
- Logic family: CMOS 4000 series
- Supply voltage: 3 V to 18 V
- Outputs: 7 segment outputs (a–g), each able to source up to 25 mA
- Control inputs: lamp test (LT), blanking (BI) and latch enable (LE)
- Invalid codes: BCD inputs above 9 blank the display
- Pins: 16
BCD-7seg latch dec CD4511 Applications
- Driving common-cathode 7-segment LED displays
- Digital counters with BCD counter ICs such as the CD4510 or CD4518
- Clocks, timers and scoreboards
- Saving microcontroller pins: 4 outputs drive one full digit
- Digital electronics classes and lab experiments
What's in the Box
- 1 × CD4511 BCD-to-7-segment latch/decoder/driver IC
Tip: For normal operation, tie LT and BI high and LE low. Put a current-limiting resistor (about 330 Ω to 1 kΩ at 5 V) in series with each segment output, and use a common-cathode display; common-anode displays need a different driver such as the 74LS47.
