BT151-500R

The BT151-500R is a glass-passivated silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) thyristor rated for 500 V and 12 A RMS, in a TO-220AB package. A small current into the gate switches it on, and it stays on until the current through it falls below the holding level. It is used for controlling motors, lamps and heaters, and for static switching of mains loads.

Tip: The metal tab is connected to the anode, so insulate it with a mica washer when mounting on a shared heatsink. An SCR conducts in one direction only; for full-wave AC control use a triac or place the SCR after a bridge rectifier.
