Description

The Incremental Photoelectric Rotary Encode (rotary encoder) is an optical shaft encoder that gives 400 pulses for every full turn of its shaft and runs from a DC supply of 5 V to 24 V. Inside, a slotted disc turns between a light source and a photo sensor, so rotation is counted without contact or wear. It lets Arduino, PLC and motor-control projects measure speed, angle and position accurately.

Incremental Photoelectric Rotary Encode Specifications

  • Type: incremental rotary encoder
  • Sensing: photoelectric (optical), non-contact
  • Resolution: 400 pulses per revolution (0.9° per pulse)
  • Supply voltage: DC 5–24 V
  • Output: a pulse train while the shaft turns; count the pulses to find angle, distance or speed

Incremental Photoelectric Rotary Encode Applications

  • Measuring motor speed (RPM) and shaft angle
  • Position feedback for DC motors, CNC axes and linear stages
  • Length and distance measurement with a measuring wheel
  • Manual hand-wheel input for machines and control panels
  • Robotics, mechatronics and PLC training

What's in the Box

  • 1 × 400-pulse incremental photoelectric rotary encoder

Tip: Check the wiring label supplied with the encoder before connecting it. If you power it from 12 V or 24 V, make sure the output signals stay within your board's input voltage (3.3 V on ESP32, 5 V on Arduino Uno); many encoders of this type have open-collector outputs that need pull-up resistors to the board's logic voltage. Read the pulses with interrupt pins so none are missed at high speed.
