Decade Counter Divider CD4026

The Decade Counter Divider CD4026 is a CMOS counter IC that counts clock pulses from 0 to 9 and decodes the count straight into seven-segment outputs. It drives a common-cathode 7-segment LED display without a separate decoder chip, and its carry output lets you chain several CD4026 chips to build multi-digit counters, so it is a classic part for digital counters, scoreboards and electronics lessons.

Tip: For normal counting, tie the reset and clock inhibit pins to GND and the display enable input to VDD, and never leave CMOS inputs floating. Add a resistor of a few hundred ohms in series with each segment to limit the LED current.
