Description

The Load Cell Sensor is a 50 kg half-bridge strain gauge sensor of the type used in electronic body (bathroom) scales. When weight presses on the sensor, the resistance of its strain gauge changes very slightly, and an amplifier such as the HX711 turns that change into a reading your Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi can use. It is a low-cost way to build your own scale or force-measuring project.

Load Cell Sensor Specifications

  • Type: resistance strain gauge load cell, half-bridge
  • Rated capacity: 50 kg per sensor
  • Wires: 3 (the two ends of the half bridge and the centre tap)
  • Typical use: four sensors combined into a full Wheatstone bridge for a body scale
  • Output: very small analog signal that needs an amplifier and ADC such as the HX711

Load Cell Sensor Applications

  • DIY bathroom and body weight scales
  • Platform scales and parcel or luggage weighing
  • Force and load measurement experiments in STEM labs
  • Arduino and ESP32 weighing projects such as smart bins or beehive scales

What's in the Box

  • 1 × 50 kg half-bridge load cell sensor

Tip: A single half-bridge sensor cannot form a complete bridge on its own; use two or four sensors (or one sensor with two matching resistors) wired as a full bridge to the HX711. Mount each sensor so the load presses on its centre while the outer frame is supported, leaving a small gap underneath so it can flex.
