Description

The Five Channel tracing module is an infrared line tracking sensor with five channels in a row. Each channel shines infrared light at the floor and measures how much is reflected, so it can tell a black line from a white surface. With five sensors across the line, an Arduino or ESP32 robot car can tell how far it has drifted, steer more smoothly, take sharp turns and detect crossings.

Five Channel tracing module Specifications

  • Channels: 5 infrared reflective sensors (IR emitter and receiver)
  • Output: one signal per channel to the microcontroller
  • Detection: dark and light surfaces at short range, such as black tape on a white floor
  • Controller: works with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and other microcontrollers

Five Channel tracing module Applications

  • Line-following robot cars and competition robots
  • Track, junction and stop-line detection
  • Edge and cliff detection on small robots
  • PID line-following experiments
  • STEM and robotics classes

What's in the Box

  • 1 × five-channel infrared tracing module

Tip: Mount the sensor bar a few millimetres above the floor and check each channel over the line before running the robot. Bright sunlight contains infrared and can confuse the sensors, so test and tune them indoors first. With five channels, a weighted average of the readings gives a smooth line position for PID steering.
