Description
The Force Sensitive Resistor (FSR), small size, is a thin sensor whose resistance drops as you press on its sensing area. With no pressure it reads a very high resistance, and the harder you press, the lower it goes. Wired in a simple voltage divider, it lets an Arduino or ESP32 detect a touch, a squeeze or roughly how hard something is being pressed.
Force Sensitive Resistor Specifications
- Sensor type: force sensing resistor (FSR), thin film
- Size: small sensing area
- Behaviour: resistance decreases as the applied force increases
- Unloaded resistance: very high, in the megohm range
- Terminals: 2 leads, no polarity
- Output: analog, read through a voltage divider
- Accuracy: suited to detecting touch and relative force, not precise weighing
Force Sensitive Resistor Applications
- Touch and pressure buttons
- Detecting whether an object or person is present on a seat, shelf or mat
- Grip sensing in robot hands and grippers
- Musical instruments and interactive art
- STEM and university sensor projects
What's in the Box
- 1 × small force sensitive resistor
Tip: Connect one lead to 5 V (or 3.3 V) and the other to an analog pin, then add a 10 kΩ resistor from that pin to GND. Avoid heating the leads for long with a soldering iron, as the plastic film is easily damaged; a female header or crimp connector is safer.
