Description

The Hall Magnetic Sensor Module detects a magnet without any physical contact. It uses a Hall effect sensor that reacts to a magnetic field and changes its output when a magnet comes close, which an Arduino, ESP32 or other microcontroller can read on a digital pin. Because there are no moving contacts, it does not wear out and works well for counting, position sensing and speed measurement.

Hall Magnetic Sensor Module Specifications

  • Sensing element: Hall effect sensor
  • Detects: magnetic fields from permanent magnets
  • Output: digital signal to a microcontroller input
  • Sensing method: non-contact, no moving parts
  • Format: small breakout board with header pins

Hall Magnetic Sensor Module Applications

  • Wheel and shaft speed sensing (RPM) with a small magnet
  • Door and lid open or closed detection
  • End-stop and position sensing in robots and machines
  • Counting rotations in flow meters and anemometers
  • Learning about magnetism and sensors in class

What's in the Box

  • 1 × Hall magnetic sensor module

Tip: Many Hall switches react to only one pole of a magnet, so if the module does not respond, turn the magnet round. Small neodymium magnets give the most reliable detection distance.
