Description
The Infrared Inspection Module for obstacle avoidance is a small IR sensor board that detects objects in front of it by sending out infrared light and sensing the reflection. When an obstacle comes within range, the digital output changes state and an on-board LED lights, so an Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi can react straight away. It is a low-cost favourite for robot cars and beginner projects.
Infrared Inspection Module Specifications
- Sensor: infrared emitter and receiver pair
- Comparator: LM393
- Sensitivity: adjustable with the on-board potentiometer
- Output: digital, LOW when an obstacle is detected
- Supply voltage: 3.3–5 V DC
- Indicators: power LED and detection LED
- Pins: VCC, GND and OUT
Infrared Inspection Module Applications
- Obstacle-avoiding robot cars
- Object counters and presence detection
- Edge detection to stop table-top robots falling
- Interactive projects and STEM classes
What's in the Box
- 1 × infrared obstacle avoidance module
Tip: Turn the potentiometer slowly while holding an object at the distance you want to detect, until the detection LED just switches on. Black or shiny surfaces reflect less infrared light and strong sunlight can cause false readings, so test in your real conditions.
